Motion

Tightening without moving

Three fixed frames turn a simple paper delivery into rising tension. The pacing is built in the edit, not the camera.

On the record

The piece, by the numbers.

  1. 01240 frames, an even ten seconds, every output frame mapping one to one onto its source.
  2. 02Three fixed crop windows, changed only at source frames 80 and 160. No window moves inside its section.
  3. 03The final section spends one master pixel per delivery pixel, with no scaling at all.
A folded-paper fox courier skates a paper street past a black lamppost with a parcel under one arm.

Held frameA single frame from the piece, held. If it reads on its own, the motion around it holds too.

Decisions

The calls that shaped it, written down.

  1. 01Tighten by cutting. A punch-in would have added a camera move the source never had.
  2. 02Prove the frame mapping instead of trusting it. Frame 200 measured against its own rectangle scores 45.9 dB; against the wrong rectangle it scores 11.6 dB.

Working artifact

Kept with the piece.

Six frames showing each of the three framings at its start and at the frame before its cut.

Handoff

What shipped.

  • Excerpt at 1920x824, a landscape and a 4:5 poster, and a six-frame timing strip showing each framing at its start and at the frame before its cut.
  • The three crop rectangles, their origins, and both cut frames recorded as an edit decision list.
